Our History
A Greater Purpose was founded in 2021 by three women who worked together as a team of home healthcare providers for over 15 years. During those years they assisted many families that were their clients. As they saw a need in a family, together they reached out to their own communities and met the need. The more they did this the more they realized there were many needs for those that live in poverty including hunger, safety, missed medical appointments and care, poor housing and resources. We recognized some of the root causes of poverty to include the lack of education, past family history, traumatic life events and single parenting.
We never stopped helping those that we could but we knew this problem was bigger than three women could tackle alone. After years of planning, we embarked on the task of forming a non-profit. Our hope was to help more families than we could reach by ourselves and our desire was to focus on a specific group that we felt we could impact the most – Mothers and Children. It really begins with the need to care for the children and to do that we have to impact the mother in a way she can elevate from poverty to freedom.
We feel there are three ways we can do this. We can provide education for moms to either enter school for a trade or assist moms in obtaining a job where she is qualified to work. We assist in providing food and childcare services to support the family while mom is working or going to school. We can also provide housing assistance to move a family from low income projects to a community that can support them.
Our long-term goal is to offer transition housing for a family that includes a community of successful family, school and church networks for the children to be supported while mom is in school or working.
